Jamie Fordyce – Managing Director

Jamie Fordyce is a second-year MBA candidate at the MIT Sloan School of Management. His focus is on the commercialization of early stage energy technologies, with a particular interest in energy storage, water treatment, and unconventional gas. Jamie recently worked at GE Power & Water, where he was responsible for identifying emerging market growth opportunities in water treatment. Before coming to MIT, he served as energy advisor to Commissioner Dian Grueneich of the California Public Utilities Commission, and spent two years prior on the staff of the Environmental Defense Fund. Jamie received his A.B. from Harvard University in 2005. Having served as a sponsorship director for the 2011 Conference, Jamie is excited to be back on board as this year’s Managing Director.
Sarah Fletcher – Friday Content Co-Director

Sarah Fletcher is a second-year graduate student in the Technology and Policy Program at MIT. As a research assistant at the MIT Energy Initiative, she contributed to MIT’s study The Future of Natural Gas and now continues her thesis research on environmental risk analysis of shale gas extraction. Before coming to MIT, Sarah worked in Washington, DC analyzing national energy and climate change policy at the National Commission on Energy Policy. She holds a BA in physics and economics from the University of Pennsylvania. Sarah helped organized the Building Energy Management Systems workshop in the 2011 MIT Energy Conference and is thrilled to return as a Content Director in 2012.
Richard Zhang – Friday Content Co-Director

Richard Zhang is a second year graduate student in Electrical Engineering, with research interests in power electronics, power systems and electromagnetism. Throughout his first year of study at MIT he worked on the MIT Future of the Electric Grid study, focusing on the technical and market implications of large scale, grid level wind and solar integration. Richard was a member of the energy conference organizing team in 2011, leading the workshop “Grid 101” on power systems. Outside of the MIT energy community, he has also served as a co-chair of the MIT Graduate Student Council Orientation Committee. Richard holds a BE in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.
Michael Hagerty – Saturday Content Co-Director

Michael Hagerty is a second year master’s student in MIT’s Technology and Policy Program with a focus in energy policy. His research at MIT is focused on analyzing the effects of intermittent renewable generation on the electric power sector generation mix. Last year he worked on organizing the Renewable Fuels panel and is excited to pull together a great conference this year as a Content Director. Michael graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BS in Chemical Engineering and worked for four years at UOP/Honeywell as a Field Service Process Advisor on the startup and operations of oil refinery and petrochemical process units, mainly located in Southeast Asia. He is interested in working in alternative fuels after he graduates in May 2012.
Tanvir Madan – Saturday Content Co-Director

Tanvir Madan is a second-year Master’s student in the Technology and Policy Program at MIT, conducting research on energy efficiency improvements and de-carbonization of the power sector using economic modeling tools. In last year’s conference, he helped organize the panel entitled “Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure.” Originally from Kolkata, Tanvir completed his BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). Tanvir’s most recent work experiences include the Kauffman Foundation and a clean energy IPP start-up in India, where he focused on business development in the solar space. Tanvir has a specific interest in the renewable energy sector and is looking to advance his interest further after graduation.
Álvaro Fernández – Showcase Director

Álvaro Fernández is pursuing an MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management, with a scholarship from “Fundación Caja Madrid.” His greatest passion is the energy sector and would like to work helping solve the great challenges at hand in the industry. While at Sloan, Álvaro has been a lead organizer of the MIT Sloan Clean Energy Study Tour to Spain and Denmark, which allowed student attendees to meet policy makers and first-line executives from top energy companies in both countries. Prior to moving to Boston, Álvaro worked at McKinsey & Company’s Madrid Office, serving clients throughout Europe in topics like energy, telecom or operations. Álvaro holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from ICAI (Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid). Originally from Cádiz, Spain, Álvaro is an avid rugby player at MIT Rugby Football Club, where he is also one of the Recruiting Co-Chairs.
Johanna Engel – Operations Director

Johanna Engel is a fourth-year PhD student in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Her research focuses on solar energy storage by means of conversion. As a member of the electroceramics group, she is investigating a novel catalyst and possible anode materials for photoelectrolysis, the splitting of water with the sun’s energy. Prior to her studies at MIT, Johanna attained a B.S.E. in Materials Science and Engineering and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 2008. Johanna has been an active member of the energy community at MIT since working on the Friday Night Showcase logistics of the 2010 Energy Conference. Last year, she was part of the conference logistics team and generally enjoys the opportunity to discuss the various energy related issues with peers from all disciplines. In addition, Johanna has been a part of the MIT rowing club since 2008 and served as the club’s co-president last year.
Megan Glendon – Marketing Director

Megan Glendon is a second year student at the MIT Sloan School of Management. This summer Megan worked at PRTM, an operations strategy consulting firm, in the Energy Business Group in Mountain View, CA. Prior to coming to Sloan, Megan worked at Charles River Associates (CRA) in the Energy & Environment Practice. At CRA, she worked with utility and renewable energy clients to develop corporate strategy and improve organizational effectiveness. At MIT Sloan, she was an organizer of the MIT Sloan Clean Energy Study Tour to Denmark and Spain, which enabled 25 students to travel to Europe and meet with top companies and policymakers in the clean energy industry. She is also a Vice President of the Management Consulting Club. Megan was an organizer of the 2011 Energy Conference and is excited to return as the Marketing Director.
Dan Connell – Sponsorship Co-Director

Dan Connell is a first year student at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Prior to coming to Sloan, Dan served as a Naval Intelligence Officer across the Middle East and Asia in a variety of roles. His last assignment prior to completing his military service was with the Joint Chiefs of Staff Intelligence Directorate in Washington, DC. A joint student with the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Dan is extremely interested in energy finance, smart grid implementation, and energy regulatory policy. Dan holds a BA in History from Seton Hall University.

Adam Borelli is an MBA candidate in MIT’s Sloan School of Management’s Class of 2013. Prior to enrolling in Sloan, he was the Executive Director of New Leaders Council (NLC). Before that Adam worked on the Investments Team at Google.org as the Investments Researcher on renewable energy investments and grants. He previously worked as a Research Manager for Tiburon Strategic Advisors, a research-based strategy consulting firm to financial institutions. Before that, Adam worked for We the People, Inc., a 501(c)4 organization, served as the California State Coordinator for Generation Dean, and the National Committeeman for the California Young Democrats. Adam sits on the Netroots Nation Advisory Council and the Advancement Committee for Asylum Access. In 2011 Adam received the Gerbode Fellowship, a prestigious award given to the top five nonprofit leaders. Adam received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Berkeley.
